A SIMPLE COACHING WORKFLOW

Build a basketball playbook in four steps

  1. 01

    Start with your team

Create a team with a name and age group. Keep each team’s playbooks separate when you coach more than one group.

  2. 02

    Choose your saved plays

Bring in the plays you drew or refined in the play designer. Start small: an opening set, an inbound, and a reliable fallback.

  3. 03

    Arrange the teaching order

Put the simplest idea first. Add reminders, reorder plays, and build a focused plan for practice or game day.

  4. 04

    Review the pages

Preview the diagrams and cues in order. Team-playbook printing and sharing are not available yet. You can print or share an individual play from the designer.

A home for each team

A rec team and an AAU team can have different playbooks. Choose the team first, then collect the plays that fit those players.

A sequence kids can follow

Numbered steps show who passes, who cuts, and what happens next. Short coaching cues give players something to remember.

Review before practice

Preview a page layout with court diagrams and notes. Team-playbook printing is not available yet; individual plays can be printed from the designer.

Share an individual play today

Open a play in the designer and use Share for a read-only snapshot. Team-playbook sharing is not available yet.

DRAW IT. KEEP IT. TEACH IT.

One connected coaching week.

What is a basketball playbook?

A basketball playbook is an organized collection of team plays, diagrams, and coaching instructions. A playbook builder turns the plays in your library into a teaching sequence for a particular team, practice, or game. HoopSketch connects each playbook to your team and keeps its plays in the order you choose.

Keep the youth basketball playbook focused

Start with a few ideas your players can explain: a half-court set, a baseline inbound, a sideline inbound, and a safe fallback. Teach the first action before adding variations. A short, familiar playbook is easier to use in a timeout.

Build from your own basketball diagrams

Save a play in the designer, choose a team in the playbook builder, and add the plays you want. Move them into teaching order and add reminders for your coaching staff. Each team can have separate books for different situations.

Preview the book; share individual plays

Build and preview your team playbook with diagrams and reminders. Team-playbook printing and sharing are not available yet. To send something now, open an individual play in the designer and use Share or Export. Keep its instructions short and include the fallback.

Questions coaches ask

What is the difference between a play library and a playbook?

Your library stores all your saved plays. A playbook is a selected, ordered group of those plays for one team or purpose. The same saved play can appear in more than one playbook.

Can I build playbooks for more than one team?

Yes. Create your teams with a name and age group, then choose the team when creating a playbook. You can filter the playbook workspace by team.

Do I need to enter my players’ personal details?

No. Team setup uses a team name and age group. Play diagrams use position numbers, and creating a playbook does not require player names or contact information.
