BRING YOUR NEXT QUESTION
Let’s put it on the court.
Questions to ask your basketball league coordinator
Get the rulebook for the current season, age group, and competition. Recreation, school, church, and travel programs can use different rules and schedules, so the program’s name alone does not tell you what your team may do.
Before the first practice
Confirm gym access, equipment, emergency procedures, required coach training, and the approved way to communicate with families. Check who to contact if a player needs an accommodation.
Before the first game
Ask about ball size and basket height, playing-time requirements, substitutions, defensive restrictions, inbound counts, and how the clock works. Tournament rules may differ from the team’s usual league rules.
Before teaching a new tactic
Check whether zone defense or pressing is allowed and whether any restriction changes by period, score, or age group. Keep the current rule document beside your practice plan so assistants work from the same information.
Questions coaches ask
Are AAU and school rules identical?
Do not assume so. Ask the organizer for the rules of the specific competition and age group.
Is this a league directory?
This page is a planning checklist. It does not list or endorse local leagues.
