Players

Pairs (2 to 12 players across available hoops)

Equipment

1 basketball per pair, 1 basket, 2 cones

Space

Half court with 1 basketball hoop

Set it up

Place 1 cone on the right wing and 1 cone on the left wing, both 18 feet from the hoop. Player 1 starts at a cone with a basketball; Player 2 waits as the rebounder under the rim.

Run the activity

  1. The driver starts outside the cone, attacks the lane with 2 purposeful dribbles, and gathers on balance without traveling.
  2. The driver finishes off the backboard using the hand nearest the sideline (right hand on the right side, left hand on the left side).
  3. The partner catches the rebound out of the net, passes back out to the perimeter, and switches roles. Teams switch sides after 5 made layups.
ONE CUE TO SAY OUT LOUD

“Eyes on the box. Gather on balance.”

Watch for this

Jumping forward rather than upward, or trying to scoop right-handed while driving on the left side.

Make it easier

Start the driver one step inside the cone with only 1 dribble to focus purely on the footwork and backboard angle.

Add a challenge

The rebounder steps out to the edge of the key and offers light, hands-up guide pressure without blocking the shot.
