MAKE IT FIT YOUR GROUP

Coach the players in front of you.

Ages 6–8

This is a movement game, not a fitness test. Reduce time or distance whenever attention, comfort or control drops.

Work & rest
About 20 seconds of gentle movement, then at least 40 seconds to gather, rest and reset. Shorten the work when needed.
Look for success
The child stays in their own clear route and finishes each short turn with control and enjoyment.
Players

1 or more, each with a separate island route

Equipment

One suitable ball per player, Three flat markers per route

Space

A small clear area with widely spaced routes

Set it up

Make three “islands” with flat markers in each player’s own area. Everyone starts at an island with a ball. Show the route at walking pace and keep neighboring routes separate.

Run the activity

  1. On the coach’s cue, walk and dribble toward a different island, looking up to find clear space.
  2. Slow beside the island and keep the dribble gentle. If the ball gets away, stop the route and collect it without chasing into another player.
  3. After about twenty seconds, gather the ball and rest. Ask the player to choose the next island before starting a new rep.
  4. Repeat only while the children still move and stop comfortably. Use the remaining time for relaxed turns and water as needed.
ONE CUE TO SAY OUT LOUD

“Small trip. Soft dribble. Easy stop.”

Watch for this

Turning a short movement game into continuous running or a race between children.

Make it easier

Walk the route without a ball first, then use just two nearby islands.

Add a challenge

Add one gentle change of direction while preserving the short work period and recovery.
