Players

Equipment

1 basketball, 3 pinnies

Space

Half court

Set it up

Three offensive players line up at the point and both wings. Three defensive players match up in active half-court defense.

Run the activity

  1. The point guard initiates with a controlled drive toward the middle of the key.
  2. If the drive goes middle, the strong-side wing slides backward to create a clear kick-out window while the weak-side wing cuts to open space.
  3. If the drive goes baseline, the ball-side teammate clears to the perimeter and the opposite wing drops into the corner for a catch-and-shoot look.
  4. Players play live until a score, foul, or stop, emphasizing natural reads rather than forced passes.
ONE CUE TO SAY OUT LOUD

“When they drive, slide to sight”

Watch for this

Teammates stand frozen watching the driver instead of shifting to show open hands in passing windows.

Make it easier

Defenders must touch the baseline before recovering to shooters, giving attackers extra time to read the opening.

Add a challenge

The driver is not allowed to shoot and must kick out to a relocated teammate who has two dribbles maximum.
