Players

Groups of 3 to 4

Equipment

1 basketball per group, 1 basket, 2 cones

Space

Half court with one standard basket

Set it up

Place two cones at the wings, 15 feet from the hoop. Split players behind the cones. Only one player has the basketball and uses the basket at a time.

Run the activity

  1. The first player attacks the paint with one to two aggressive dribbles toward the rim.
  2. Inside the key, the player lands on a balanced two-foot jump stop with shoulders square to the backboard.
  3. The player goes straight up off two feet for a soft off-the-glass finish, collects the rebound, and passes to the first player at the opposite cone. Then join that line.
  4. The opposite line starts their drive as soon as the first shooter gathers their rebound.
ONE CUE TO SAY OUT LOUD

“Gather low, land on two feet, rise straight up.”

Watch for this

Leaning forward during the jump stop and drifting into the baseline or backboard on the release.

Make it easier

Remove the live drive; players start inside the key, take one step into a jump stop, and finish softly.

Add a challenge

Add a passive defender beside the basket with hands straight up. Keep the finishing lane clear and stop if players lose control.
