MAKE IT FIT YOUR GROUP

Coach the players in front of you.

Ages 12–14

Use shorter trips and an announced passing sequence before increasing pace.

Ages 15–18

Track clean outlet-to-finish possessions. Increase the challenge with a guided read rather than removing recovery.

Work & rest
One transition trip followed by a full walk-back and role change. Add extra recovery whenever the next trip loses quality.
Look for success
The group completes the outlet and lead pass in stride with a controlled finish and clear landing space.
Players

3 rotating through rebounder, outlet and finisher

Equipment

One basketball, Two baskets or a marked finish zone

Space

Full court with three clear lanes and an outside return route

Set it up

Put a rebounder under one basket, an outlet on a nearby side and a finisher in the opposite wide lane. Walk through one rebound-to-outlet-to-finish sequence without defenders.

Run the activity

  1. The rebounder secures a gentle self-toss, turns legally and sends a controlled outlet to the side.
  2. The outlet advances with a controlled dribble while the finisher runs a wide lane, looking back for the lead pass. The rebounder trails in the middle.
  3. Pass ahead for a comfortable finish. The outlet stays out of the landing path and the trailer collects the rebound after the finish is clear.
  4. All three walk outside the court to reset and rotate jobs. Begin the next effort only when the group is ready to repeat the same passing quality.
ONE CUE TO SAY OUT LOUD

“Clean outlet. Wide lane. Recover.”

Watch for this

Starting the next trip immediately and accepting worse passing or uncontrolled landings as players tire.

Make it easier

Use half court and a catch at a finish marker instead of a layup.

Add a challenge

Add a guided recovering defender after the group can preserve safe spacing at a faster pace.
