MAKE IT FIT YOUR GROUP

Coach the players in front of you.

Ages 6–8

Use very short lanes and have the coach say “pass, move, stop” to separate the actions.

Ages 9–11

Let partners organize their own sequence; increase separation only while every pass stays comfortable.

Work & rest
Two trips, then rest together and change who begins with the ball.
Look for success
Each pass has a visible, stopped receiver and each move happens after the ball is released.
Players

2 per station, one basketball

Equipment

One basketball, Four flat markers

Space

Two parallel short lanes with a clear passing gap

Set it up

Set two short parallel lanes, each with a start and finish marker. Partners begin level with one another. The ball starts with the player on the left.

Run the activity

  1. Pass across the gap to the waiting partner, then walk to the next marker in your own lane.
  2. The receiver catches and stops on balance. Wait until the moving partner has stopped and shown their hands before returning the ball.
  3. The new passer moves along the other lane after releasing the pass. Do not walk while holding the ball.
  4. When both reach the end, carry the ball back outside the station and switch the first passer.
ONE CUE TO SAY OUT LOUD

“Pass first. Move next. Show your hands.”

Watch for this

Throwing to the old spot while the partner is still moving, or carrying the ball along the lane.

Make it easier

Use one small step between markers and allow a full pause before each pass.

Add a challenge

Alternate a chest pass and a bounce pass while keeping the same stop-before-catch rule.
