Players

Groups of 3

Equipment

One basketball per group, Two cones per group

Space

A clear 15-foot-wide passing area; no basket needed

Set it up

Place the receiver at one cone about 12 feet from the passer. A third player acts as a passive defender at arm’s length from the passer. Leave a clear side window toward the receiver.

Run the activity

  1. The passer catches with two hands, comes to a balanced stop, and establishes a pivot foot.
  2. The passive defender shows hands to cover one passing window without reaching or making contact.
  3. The passer turns on the same pivot foot to face the clear window and shows the ball under control.
  4. Pass to the receiver’s target hands, then rotate passer, receiver, and defender.
ONE CUE TO SAY OUT LOUD

“Keep one foot. Find a window.”

Watch for this

Lifting and replacing the pivot foot before releasing the pass.

Make it easier

Remove the defender and rehearse the stop, pivot, and pass slowly.

Add a challenge

Let the defender shift between two windows while the passer chooses the open angle.
