MAKE IT FIT YOUR GROUP
Coach the players in front of you.
Ages 6–8
Movement quality is the goal. Use names or numbers as well as colors so every child can follow the cue.
- Work & rest
- Four short moves, then a relaxed reset and a new leader.
- Look for success
- The player recognizes the cue and stops before the marker while remaining upright and balanced.
1 mover per clear station; coach gives cues
Four numbered or colored flat markers
A small square with generous stopping room
Set it up
Place four markers around a player, only a few walking steps away. Give each station plenty of space. Explain that the player moves toward a marker and stops before stepping on it.
Run the activity
- The coach points to one marker and waits for the child to identify it.
- Walk or gently jog toward that marker, slowing early enough to freeze without falling or grabbing anyone.
- Walk back to the middle and choose a different marker. Use forward or sideways movement only while the child learns to stop.
- After four cues, pause and let the player choose the next direction for a coach demonstration.
“Look. Move. Stop with space.”
Watch for this
Calling another direction before the child has completed a controlled stop.
Make it easier
Use just two markers and walking speed.
Add a challenge
Add a gentle sideways approach, keeping the same pause between cues.
