Set it up
Place two offensive players 12 to 16 feet from the rim spaced 15 feet apart. One coach or player stands on the baseline with a ball ready to pass.
Run the activity
- The coach passes to player 1 and starts a four-second countdown on the catch. The timing comes from the coach, not the app playback.
- Player 1 chooses a balanced shot or one quick pass to player 2 for the shot. Stop the rep if safe footwork is lost.
- Release the shot before the countdown ends without lunging. Agree which player rebounds so teammates do not collide.
- Return the ball to the coach and alternate the first receiver. With extra players, use additional stations or rotate after each rep.
“Fast eyes, calm feet”
Watch for this
Rushing the physical shooting motion and leaning forward rather than making a fast mental decision with normal shooting form.
Make it easier
Increase the countdown to 6 seconds so players have ample time to catch, square up, and evaluate the pass.
Add a challenge
Add a closeout defender who starts under the rim and sprints out to contest the initial receiver.
