Rebounding / 8 MINUTES
Rebound, secure, outlet
Train players to secure defensive rebounds with two hands, pivot with strong elbows, and deliver accurate outlet passes.

Half court · attack ↑Motion is off with your reduced-motion preference. The setup and action paths show the rep.
Groups of 3 (3 to 12 players)
1 basketball per group of 3, 1 basket
Half court with 1 basketball hoop
Set it up
One player starts under the basket as the rebounder. The second player stands on the wing as the outlet target. The third player stands near the free-throw line as the shooter/tosser.
Run the activity
- The tosser gently throws the ball against the backboard, choosing a distance that gives the rebounder a controlled catch.
- The rebounder catches with two hands at the highest comfortable point, lands on balance, and keeps elbows within their own space.
- The rebounder chin-protects the ball, pivots toward the sideline, and delivers a crisp chest pass to the wing outlet target.
- The outlet player catches the ball and passes it back to the free-throw line; players rotate spots clockwise each rep.
“Two hands up, chin the ball, pivot to the line.”
Watch for this
Bringing the ball down to waist or knee level after the rebound, allowing guards to strip it easily.
Make it easier
The tosser gently bounces the ball against the backboard from a shorter distance to give the rebounder simple timing.
Add a challenge
After tossing, the third player walks to an arm’s-length guarding position without reaching or making contact. The rebounder chooses an open pivot and outlet window.
