MAKE IT FIT YOUR GROUP

Coach the players in front of you.

Ages 15–18

Use league-appropriate timing and scoring. Keep the sequence finite so the competitive target does not erase quality or recovery.

Work & rest
Three separate possessions, then the other team’s sequence; take a discussion-and-recovery break before repeating.
Look for success
The group completes all three phases with clear matchups and controlled restarts, regardless of the point total.

Equipment

Space

Half court with a checked-ball restart area

Set it up

Each team gets one three-possession sequence: attack, defend, attack. Check the ball and reset bodies between possessions. Award one point for each successful part rather than requiring a perfect streak.

Run the activity

  1. The first team attacks from a checked ball and tries to create a sound shot within normal play. Record a point for a score.
  2. Reset and reverse roles. The same team now seeks a legal turnover or secure defensive rebound for its stop point.
  3. Reset again for its second attacking possession and a chance at the final scoring point. End the sequence after this possession regardless of results.
  4. Let the other team run its sequence, then pause to compare decisions and communication. Keep all players involved rather than using elimination or endless winner-stays turns.
ONE CUE TO SAY OUT LOUD

“New possession. Same team habits.”

Watch for this

Starting the next phase while players are still landing or chasing the previous rebound, or restarting the entire sequence after a miss.

Make it easier

Rehearse the attack-defend-attack order with guided possessions and a visible three-box tracker.

Add a challenge

Start one attacking possession from a late-clock situation appropriate to your league, while retaining full resets.
