Space

Half court

Set it up

Place 4 offensive players at the wing, high post, short corner, and top safety. Place 2 defenders covering the high post and lane.

Run the activity

  1. The wing player starts with the ball in a triple-threat stance and surveys the two defenders.
  2. If the defender shades high, the short corner steps toward the ball; if the defender sags low, the high post flashes to the free throw line.
  3. The wing delivers a quick pass to the open teammate, who catches, faces the basket, and makes a return pass to the top safety player.
ONE CUE TO SAY OUT LOUD

“Read the chest, pass to the open chest”

Watch for this

Throwing slow overhead passes that hang in the air and get tipped by recovering defenders.

Make it easier

Defenders call out who they are guarding early so the wing passer can easily identify the open option.

Add a challenge

The receiver who catches the ball can make one live dribble attack toward the rim or kick out to the opposite wing.
