Players

3 against 3

Equipment

1 basketball, 1 basket, Pennies or scrimmage vests

Space

Half court with one basket

Set it up

Use one half court with three offensive players at the top and wings and three defenders matched to them. One offensive player starts with the ball.

Run the activity

  1. Start with a pass. After passing, cut or move to a new passing window instead of standing still.
  2. Allow at most two dribbles per catch so players look for teammates before driving into traffic.
  3. Play until a score, turnover, or defensive rebound. Stop briefly to ask where the open teammate was.
  4. Switch offense and defense after each possession. Rotate additional players in regularly.
ONE CUE TO SAY OUT LOUD

“Pass to the open space, don't hold the ball.”

Watch for this

Dribbling into congested areas instead of making the simple one-touch pass to the uncovered teammate.

Make it easier

Play three attackers against two defenders and allow extra time for each catch.

Add a challenge

Return to equal teams and award a bonus point for a basket after a pass and cut.
