Players

5 to 10 players per basket

Equipment

1 basketball, 3 floor markers

Space

Half court to three-quarter court

Set it up

Place three attackers spread across the center line: middle, left wing, right wing. Place two defenders in a vertical tandem inside the key.

Run the activity

  1. Advance with three separate lanes. The middle player keeps their head up while the two wide teammates show receiving windows.
  2. The two guided defenders decide who contains the ball and who covers the next receiver; they avoid initiating contact.
  3. Attackers read the open lane and use a short pass or a balanced finish. Take an available safe opportunity rather than forcing a fixed number of passes.
  4. Stop on a score, rebound, turnover or coach call. Reset at halfway and rotate all five roles before the next wave.
ONE CUE TO SAY OUT LOUD

“Wide lanes, quick early look”

Watch for this

Wing runners cut straight to the front of the rim too early, clogging space for the driver.

Make it easier

Defenders must stay inside the painted key until the ball crosses the three-point arc.

Add a challenge

Limit the offensive possession to six seconds or a maximum of three dribbles per player.
