MAKE IT FIT YOUR GROUP
Coach the players in front of you.
Ages 6–8
Start at a walk, demonstrate one signal at a time and keep the coach close enough to be heard.
- Work & rest
- Three brief trips, then a listening or walking reset before the next round.
- Look for success
- Players stop in their own space and understand that gathering ends this dribbling rep.
1 or more in separate clear lanes, with a coach calling
One child-sized ball per player, Two markers per lane
Short, separate lanes with room to stop
Set it up
Make a short lane for each player and keep lanes well apart. The coach stands where everyone can see the signal. Begin with walking and no ball to learn the stop.
Run the activity
- On green, walk forward with a gentle dribble that stays close enough to control.
- On red, gather with two hands and stop on balanced feet. This ends the repetition; do not restart that dribble in place.
- Carry the ball back along the outside of the lane and reset. The next green signal begins a new repetition.
- Try three short trips, then rest and let a player help call the signals. There is no elimination for a mistake.
“Green: go. Red: gather and finish.”
Watch for this
Turning red into a race to stop, or teaching a second dribble after the ball has been gathered.
Make it easier
Play without a ball until each child can slow and stop in their own lane.
Add a challenge
Add a slow yellow signal before red, keeping the lane short and the stop controlled.
