Players

5 players per group

Equipment

1 basketball, 4 cones to mark an 8x8 meter box

Space

Quarter court or designated boxed area

Set it up

One ball handler inside the box, two defensive trappers pressing them, and two offensive outlet players standing outside opposite box boundaries.

Run the activity

  1. Start with the ball handler having picked up their dribble. Two guided defenders close the passing window without body contact or swiping through arms.
  2. Protect the ball with elbows close, keep the established pivot foot legal and turn to see both outlets.
  3. Make a controlled pass to an open outlet. Do not restart the dribble or try to split a closed trap.
  4. Rotate all five roles after every rep. If both outlets are covered, freeze and discuss where a teammate could create a better window.
ONE CUE TO SAY OUT LOUD

“Chin the ball and step through”

Watch for this

Trying to split through the two defenders with physical contact or jumping in the air before choosing a pass.

Make it easier

Trappers must maintain an arm's-length distance and cannot reach for the ball, focusing only on walling off space.

Add a challenge

Give the ball handler a 5-second countdown to pivot and complete the pass, simulating a live 5-second violation.
