MAKE IT FIT YOUR GROUP

Coach the players in front of you.

Ages 6–8

Keep both markers close and the rim low enough for relaxed attempts. The coach can make the return pass.

Ages 9–11

Let the shooter choose whether to advance or stay close; compare balance before comparing makes.

Work & rest
Four attempts per turn, then recover while rebounding for the partner.
Look for success
Each player can identify a range where the release and landing remain comfortable.
Players

2 per basket: shooter and rebounder

Equipment

Basketball suited to the players, Two floor markers, Basket at a suitable height

Space

One basket with two short shooting spots

Set it up

Place one marker close to the basket and the second one small step farther out on the same side. One partner shoots while the other rebounds from outside the landing space.

Run the activity

  1. Take two attempts at the near marker, then describe whether the feet and finish stayed balanced.
  2. Use the farther marker only when the same comfortable motion is available. Return closer whenever the shot turns into a throw.
  3. The partner rebounds, waits for the shooter to be ready, and sends a controlled return pass.
  4. Switch roles after four attempts. Repeat on the other side of the basket; distance is an individual choice, not a race.
ONE CUE TO SAY OUT LOUD

“Same shape at the next spot.”

Watch for this

Treating the farther marker as a prize and accepting poor technique to reach it.

Make it easier

Use only the close marker and allow a catch-and-set pause before every shot.

Add a challenge

Add a third short marker, moving it in as soon as the player starts leaning or straining.
