Cut, then receive the handoff
Coordinate a stationary off-ball screen followed immediately by a clean handoff exchange into open space.

Set it up
Player 1 starts with the ball near the slot. Player 2 sets up as a stationary screener at the mid-wing. Player 3 starts in the corner.
Run the activity
- Start slowly: player 3 cuts from the corner past player 2, who is stationary before the cutter arrives.
- Player 2 keeps arms close and a balanced stance, leaving the cutter room to pass without contact. Stay set until the cutter has cleared.
- Player 1 waits with the ball as player 3 approaches beside them. Make the close handoff only after the receiver is ready.
- Player 3 takes possession, dribbles away under control, then finishes from balanced feet. Use a guided defender only after the sequence is comfortable.
- Rotate the three roles after each rep; avoid a waiting line.
“Set the feet, brush the shoulder, take the handoff!”
Watch for this
The screener moves their feet to chase the defender, or the cutter runs too wide from the screen and ruins the handoff angle.
Make it easier
Walk through the entire movement in slow motion with no defense so players understand the timing and pathway.
Add a challenge
Introduce a guided defender on the cutter who must navigate around the stationary screen to contest the handoff.
