Create a clean outside look
Execute a coordinated sideline inbound pass that creates a clean, balanced perimeter jump shot within comfortable team range.

Half court with sideline out-of-bounds line
Set it up
One passer stands on the sideline. Two offensive players line up near the lane line. Two passive defenders match up. The remaining players wait on the baseline to rotate.
Run the activity
- The inbounder signals the start. The screener is fully stationary before the shooter cuts past them to a visible outside receiving window.
- The inbounder passes only when the shooter is open, then steps onto the court to become a safe return target.
- The shooter catches on balance. Take the clean shot if open; if contested, pass to the now-inbounds safety player instead of forcing it.
- Use legal three-point range only when the player has the strength and form for it. At closer range this teaches the same outside-look pattern but does not count as a three. Rotate roles each rep.
“Set the screen, step into the catch”
Watch for this
Shooters heaving from beyond their natural range and breaking shooting form rather than stepping in for an open, confident shot.
Make it easier
Remove defenders entirely so the screen and timing of the cut are clear and uncontested.
Add a challenge
Allow the trailing defender to play live defense around the screen once the cut begins.
